Are Travis and Perkins having a laugh

I don't know about the manchester one, but the Travis in Halstead use E O Burton in Brentwood. Try asking your local travis where their hardwood comes from, and go straight there! Julian

Are Travis and Perkins having a laugh

Travis tend to price stuff by the hundred metre. I think that must be what you were quoted. Travis Perkins are not cheap for hardwood because they have it supplied by local hardwood merchants and mark up the price, but that seems a tad over the top!! Julian

    The Great British Woodshop

Yes, i only saw the feather edge one and i refused to watch it after that. The boards were curling before the end of the program! Unfortunately im sure a lot of people will watch and follow his methods, only to find later he doesn't have a clue what he is doing! Julian

    Oak skirting/architrave/door lining/door suppliers?

Ridgeons do an oak veneered mdf skirting and architrave. Not sure of the price but it should be good compared to solid Julian

It happend again - table saw accident

As I understand it, the sawstop works by 'stopping' when it measures too much moisture in the piece being cut. Does this mean it will 'stop' if you try to cut a piece of green oak? Be very expensive if it did! Julian

    Loft Joinery Conundrum

Depending on the ridge height, if you bolt a 4"x2" cross member at ' ceiling height ' ( as long as this is no more than 3/4rs the height of the roof) to each and every pair of opposed rafters you can certainly remove the horizontal brace, and depending on where the purlin falls on the ceiling...

    270 deg hinge?

Surely a flush hinge will only allow the door to open 180 deg before the outside corner of the door hits the carcass.

Does anyone understand how to install Twin\Multiwall Roofing

Hi Wizer, I would say that the quote they gave you is pretty good. When I did my conservatory roof ( similar size) I bought the materials and did it myself, the materials came to about £350. I also found ( over time and several leaks) that due to expansion and contraction the 1" thick sheets...

    B*@!*!! Tiscali

Why is it that in so many businesses, customer 'service' is a thing of the past! Thanks for the heads up, if I have any problems with them I'll know what to expect. Julian Ps. When I bought my Dell computer about two years ago, it was one of their double memory offers. The computer came...

    Smoke in the Shop

The scary thing was, when I later had to replace socket etc. and told her how stupid she had been and it was fairly obvious what could happen, she said," Oh, I never though it might be dangerous" Julian

    Smoke in the Shop

My Mum was trying to turn off her old freezer to defrost it, but couldn't reach the socket switch at the back... so she tried to 'flick' the switch up with a bread knife  Needless to say she reached in too far and flicked the knife under the plug where it shorted the live and neutral pins...

    Induction Motors

Thanks everybody, I guess my humming skillsaw would cost a fortune, run too slowly and weigh about half a ton then!! Where did I put those earmuffs  I have seen mitre saws with induction motors, Elektra Bekum I think, so I just wondered. Cheers Julian

    B*@!*!! Tiscali

Sorry, but I have to play devil's advocate here. I have been with Tiscali since they were called Lineone, hence my email address, probably about 8 years or so, and I have never had any problems at all, moved from dial up to broadband a couple of years ago and they have been great. I will say I...

    Induction Motors

Hi all, I know how a brush motor works, but can anyone explain roughly how an induction motor works, as they are so quiet why aren't circular saws etc. fitted with them? Is it weight or cost of manufacture? If it's cost I would gladly pay extra for a soft humming circular! Cheers (Going deaf...
