How best to check for metal before sawing/planing

One point to mention with pallet wood. It can also be embedded with small stones which get embedded during their use on gravel etc. I didn't find this out until I put some through my planer! ☹️

Rawhide mallet. What would they have been used for.

I used them quite a lot at Rolls-Royce. We used to them on exotic materials like titanium and Inco or plate so as not to cause damage. They are quite professional there. :)

    Renew measuring marks

I would definitely give them a light coat of oil and save them as they are as your own keepsake. Yours are read as a real Vernier scale should be read and you don't see that much now. You can get yourself a nice new METAL Vernier calliper that will be just as accurate (but probably will not last...

    Shop Vac Tee Pipe

Does anyone know of a switchable y pipe or tee pipe that I could fit to a shop vac? I want to connect my mitre saw and band saw to the same shop vac and just throw a switch or lever from one to the other without losing suction. Or could I make one somehow?

    Staining garden furniture

If I stain garden furniture can I then put some kind of oil on it to protect it from the elements? If so do I have to have a certain type of stain and or oil?

I am somewhat of a novice to woodwork but enjoy every minute of it! I see online people incorporating t-tracks into their jigs and fixtures. These look a very good idea so I think I will invest in a few. Can I buy like a starter kit? With the tracks nuts clamps etc? If I buy a certain size track...

Dado joint on a router table

Thank you for the reply. My plunge router is permanently set into a router table. Never to see the light of day again! :) Trouble is with my recent project I need to go to a certain depth with the guide bearing datum reaching an edge. My router is too big for me to hand hold. I must invest in...
