    Fobco drill press clean up

Hi folks - making progress, have freed up the table, have decided to take the pulley off the back so I can paint the parts more easily. Taking that slowly as it is quite stuck, using a gear puller and leaving it overnight to soak in the crc.

    Fobco drill press clean up

I mean the main central column that everything moves up and down on (that the clamp is missing on). The table is currently very stuck, so I need to loosen it all up. Re paint, yes I've found an automotive service who will make me up some in a spray can - !

    Fobco drill press clean up

Sounds like a very practical approach to keep the warts and all! I've now scraped off all the paint and warts so no going back... I was told that I could get a spray can filled - but seems not, so I might now be faced with having to either paint this with a brush, which they have very good...

    Fobco drill press clean up

That's the advice I was hoping for! I'd rather not take things apart further, so its good to get 'permission' so to speak, as I was worried it would look like a job half done. I've been to the paint shop today to see if they can match the colour - next on the list is to make a proper table /...

    Fobco drill press clean up

I wonder why also...? I do know someone with a lathe, (they are currently quite sick with covid - no surprise I guess) but until then I'll use the little clamp. Seems I can't buy the paragon paints down here, but I can take the top lid to a paint shop and ask them to match it. Next to find a...

That's a relief...this is the clamp you refer to I assume? (attached)

    Fobco drill press clean up

Thanks, I appreciate your help so far ... your previous post was really helpful, and yes I saw from other drawings that the original switch was on the same (left) side. But I have another problem. I'm out of my depth with this... as I was cleaning things up, and had removed the top cover, and a...

    Fobco drill press clean up

Some pics... the drill came crashing down to the table today, so it is not stuck anymore! But too heavy to push back up.. meanwhile I have been stripping the paint. Trying to decide whether to take the engine off so I can paint behind, but that means removal of the back spindle (?) which is...

    Fobco drill press clean up

Another question. The plastic square that has single phase wiring written on it - that has replaced the original switch as when I took the aluminium plate off, there was no switch in behind it. What mod has been made and why? As far as I can see, it hasn't added any variable speed, just a...

    Fobco drill press clean up

Great to know where the groovy name came from. I do appreciate it is the 'rolls Royce' of press drills from what I've read online. You will see from the pictures this one was bought from a Wellington Store (I am in Auckland). Today I undid a number of little handles, and stripped most of the...

    Fobco drill press clean up

Hi there - I have joined this forum for one main reason... I have inherited my Father's FOBCO drill press, and I noticed people posting on this subject. The drill is working fine, but I decided to give it polish and paint. Easier said that done. The table doesn't slide up and down easily, and I...

    Fobco drill press clean up

Hi folks - I’m posting from NZ, I’ve inherited a fobco drill press from my Dad, know nothing about them - but keen to use it. It seems in good condition, probably little to moderate use over the years. The chuck turned beautifully smoothly - until I decided to soak it in vinegar to shiny it up...
