    £100 table saw

Thanks for the reply Richard, It's not a track saw as such - a circ saw from screwfix, with a home made cutting guide. It's a complete pain in the ass to move it around and clamp it on top of a slab of celotex I use outside for cutting on. It's almost impossible to get an accurate cut. I...

    £100 table saw

evening all, question for you all concerning tablesaws. I'd like to get one as i'm looking for something that will allow me to quickly make clean accurate cuts repetitively. I have a circ saw with a guide which is good enough for rough cuts but doesn't get me where i need to be. it's also...

any idea how I can make something like this?

Thanks as always to everyone for their thoughts. To be fair what I've shown is a very complicated example - I can probably simplify slightly to play to the strengths of the tools I'm using (hiring). Will a laser cutter get me a v shaped cut in the same way that a router bit would? I guess the...

any idea how I can make something like this?

Hi all, bit of a departure from my last few requests - anyone know how I can make something like this? http://previews.123rf.com/images/zoomzo ... slamic.jpg Obviously the image above is in stone, but is there a way I can recreate in wood without carving for hrs and hrs? I'm a bit of a whizz...

    Mitre joints/accuracy - thoughts/help required!

Hi all, I think I know the answer to these 2 questions, but I thought I’d ask people far wiser than me in case anyone has any bright ideas… I’m building some cabinets. I’d like a long mitred edge. I’m using birch play and I’d like to keep the edges exposed cos I kinda like them. It means I...

Circular saw – warped base plate

Thanks all - I got the base plate off and sure enough it was wonky. Attached a secondary plywood one with the same apertures etc in it, which has helped already - Might just need to drag it across some sandpaper on a flat surface to even out the tiny camber on it. I looked into buying a new...

Circular saw – warped base plate

thanks all, its an Evolution rage 2 jobbie from screwfix. Got the blade out last night and there is a definite fall off on the outer edge of the thin side of the base plate. Might be able to flatten it, or I'm thinking of attaching an MDF base to the existing base plate.

Circular saw – warped base plate

Hi everyone, I’m an absolute noob, so apologies if this is a stupid question. I was cutting some ply with my circular saw yesterday and I noticed the cut is not completely straight in the vertical plane hence it is giving everything I cut a slight bevel. I used a square to align the blade with...

    Light finish on birch ply

Hi everyone. I’m building some birch ply cabinets and I have a few questions about the best way of finishing them. I’ve never really built a cabinet before, so some of these questions might be quite basic. 1. Ideally I’d like to lighten the ply to a washed out white look, but still have the...

    Filling around solid wood edging

No reason for not using MDF other than I wasn't aware it would be an issue from a finish perspective. From what I've read elsewhere plywood is a little better for cabinet making (which is what I'm attempting - a media centre). To be fair, glass like finish might be overegging it a bit - I just...

    Filling around solid wood edging

Thanks Robin - any particular brand of 2 pack wood filler you'd recommend? Jim

    Filling around solid wood edging

Hi brain trust Quick question re solid wood edging on plywood. I’m about to do this and I’m anticipating having some hairline gaps to fill when done. I’m going to paint over everything so a colour match isn’t important, however getting a glass flat finish is. I’ve had a look through previous...

    How do I make this

Thanks for the comments so far, and good question re cornices which isn't clear from my original post/photo. Forgetting about the cornices for a minute, I’m after something more simplistic I’m afraid ie joining a horizontal and vertical pieces of wood at the corner. I appreciate this is in...
