I came across a simple upgrade to the existing top blade guide and thought I'd share it.
I found a complete assembly for a Proxxon bandsaw which drops right in with a small shim to hold the stem in place. The Proxxon part no. is 28187 and is ideal for 1/4"...

the original had adjustable rake angle and table/disc gap adjustment and mitre fence slot.....hmm
I decided to go with 125mm dia to suit the sanding pads I have already.
I used the Burgess circle cutting attachment and some 3/4" ply that was lying around though I'm sure 1/4" or 3/8" would have been adequate.
Three nuts (nyloc, normal, nyloc) and a 6mm penny washer provide spacing and...
Seems a reasonably flat wooden disc, with a glued-on velcro pad, bolted to a long m6 bolt or length of M6 stud shoud do the trick for the disc at least. I believe the original disc was 8" diameter.....hmm.....
