    Airport security

Years ago I had this great Gerber multi tool that I used to carry often at weekend when walking about in the great outdoors (possibly illegally as it had a decent locking blade but at the time I never really did think about that). That tool is unusual in that when folded it looks like a small...

    Paint / Varnish Stripper

Starchem Synstryp is the real deal if you can source it (also rather expensive and comes in 5 litres bottles minimum I believe).

    Mystery Router fences

I have the same style of fence. It came with a DeWalt 625E (Made in Italy, can't remember the year). The knobs are somewhat different, but the casting looks the same (mine has markings inside along the fence). The knobs on your photos are the same one used on a Trend circle jig that I have...

    Posting cordless tools overseas

Thanks, I did see the version from Parcel Force which incidentally is worded almost the same, but with subtle changes like the use of the word "parcel" instead of "package" that kind of thing. http://www.parcelforce.com/help-and-advice/sending/prohibitions-and-restrictions It looks like one...

    Posting cordless tools overseas

I am back from D&M Tool Show where I got a combi drill driver that I am intending to give to my Dad as a birthday present. He lives in France so I was going to ship it by courrier. Even with the cost of shipping, I think it is still significantly cheaper than buying an equivalent model over...

    Netgear DG834 router anomaly

Just a thought: what site did you use to test the filter with ? If it's Google sites, chrome tends to default to SSL with those (https://) and the router won't be able to scan the content due to the encryption whereas it can with other browsers that use http://.

    Lightening map

I like to use http://www.blitzortung.org fed by an international network of detectors setup by amateurs. Strikes that are 20 mn old or less appear in white and the dark red one were detected up to 2 hours ago.

    Removal of stolen images

This is unlikely, but if they have just linked to your pictures from their site instead of actually copying the pictures to their own host, then all would be setup for a classic web prank opportunity not to be missed: simply replace the pictures with others (let your creativity flow, but...

    Any UNIX experts?

Hi Roger, Try: sudo su - or sudo bash You'll be prompted for your password (not root's). EDIT: now that I just re-read your post  I am not sure what you mean by root level. If you want to be root (super user), the above applies. Otherwise, if you want to go to the root of the...

    A Kerry Query

I did look at the lathes site (sorry can't post domain names yet) which is where I found a great page on Kerry lathes, however searching on that site for "back gear" found latheparts/page4.html (sorry I can't post full URLs yet) where the photo of the headstock and back gear assembly for a 1934...

    A Kerry Query

Hi everyone, For this first post I wish to express my thanks to all the contributors on this most excellent forum. I have been like a sponge on UKW for the best part of a year, all the while setting myself up with a shed and a few tools, as a wannabe woodworking hobbyist. I wanted a pillar...
