    Blade breaks

When cutting jigsaws with a very fine blade I set the new blade on the lowest speed and carefully make it trace the path again, no problem. Alternatively I start from the other end and make the 2 cut lines join but it is harder and not so neat.

    Variable speed control.

Definitely. I could not cut puzzles without variable speed.

Hi new here. Jigsaw advice please.

Hello Chris and welcome to the forum, I agree with the previous postings. The search function will lead you to a lot of info. Have a look at mikesworkshop for blades and tutorials. Trawl American puzzle cutters' sites, a lot of them have info, pictures and videos. However I am more reserved...

    Severe Color-Line Puzzle Cutting

Do you know what would be so sad and boring, guys? If all puzzle cutters agreed that there was One True Way To Cut Puzzles to the exclusion of all others. Diversity of styles, that is the fun bit. The first Wentworth puzzle I bought delighted me no end. When another one turned out to have the...

    Severe Color-Line Puzzle Cutting

Hello Chris, Funny you should say that, that is exactly the direction my thoughts have been going. Directions, should I say. 1 : Save the outer trim in one piece as a frame, and possibly glue it onto a bottom plank, like many children jigsaws (George Luck style. Are they called tray...

    Severe Color-Line Puzzle Cutting

Hello Carter, thank you for your advice and encouragement. I meant than the blade was probably not tensioned enough and I pushed it around in all directions as I cut. As a result the edges of the pieces were not always at right angle with the top surface and bottom surface all the way round. As...

    Severe Color-Line Puzzle Cutting

Hello Carter, This is so perfectly cut! I have been cutting jigsaws for about 4 weeks now and I am an adept of colour-line cutting. I agree it is tremendously phun! I don't do tabs like you do, however, all is push-fit style. 2 reasons for that: - I feel reluctant to "spoil" the picture by...

How to sand the back of jigsaw puzzles?

Thank you all for your advice. I like the idea of making a tray or frame, I'll keep that in mind. I have tried a few things out to good effects:  1- Covering the underside with masking tape when using standard blades (i.e. not FD). => :) It takes a bit of time to remove it but well...

    Hello to everyone

Hello, I agree about the blade guard and the hold down thing. I too am considering removing them altogether. The blade guard worked well when all I was doing was straight or random cuts, but now that I do colour line cutting it impedes my vision as the light reflects on it. So for fiddly work I...

Insert not flush on my AWFS18

Hi Geoff, I see what you mean. When I put the edge of a metal ruler across the table and shine a light behind, I can see that the table curves down inward ever so slightly, just enough to be able to slide the corner of a piece of paper underneath in the centre. I am not sure what compound cuts...

Insert not flush on my AWFS18

Thank you all for your advice. I had indeed thought about sticking some card or masking tape underneath  , but feared it was too simple and low tech an idea to work, and probably a stupid idea that would make a mess. I have duly cut a circle of card to give the insert that...

Insert not flush on my AWFS18

Hello, The insert on my AWF18 does not sit flush with the table. It is lower, half a millimeter lower perhaps, but still, it makes a "kerb" on which small jigsaw pieces catch and stay stuck. Very awkward to try to lift them up whilst cutting, makes quite a mess of things. It also mean...

New tool arrived today and hi

Hi Tenko, There are Scheppach Decoflex saws in the school's workshop and I was originally considering getting one, but was put out by the fact that they seemed very loud, even in a workshop environment, so could not face having one of those in my dining room. Got an AWFS18 instead, which is...

New tool arrived today and hi

Hi, I got a AWFS18 recently so have a look at the thread I originated for lots of advice. I agree the paper manual is useless, there is a link on the thread for a PDF which is much better. https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37132 Good luck.
