Do you have 3 phase power and access to some heavy lifting/transport equipment? If you do then there are some fantastic bargains to be had on ebay and other auction sites for old, solid, cast iron machines (Wadkin etc) that will serve you at least as well if not better than anything you can buy...

Be warned; if you're going to be carrying it in and out of the house even bench top thicknessers are not light, I do this with mine as well, I'm 17 stone and pretty fit but I wouldn't say I can just pop it under my arm and strole about.... Just a thought N.

I'm affraid the rise of the troll is now a growing theme in all kinds of forums not just here. I've seen them kill a couple of really great forums in the last few years, it's a shame but just part of online life these days.
