    Upgraded no4

I was lucky enough to buy a new old stock Stanley No4 a back in September, box and all. Even more lucky it was the heavy weight type with the thick castings. So its a very nice plane, but thinking It might be made into a superb one, I remembered I had a spare blade and cap iron from Workshop...

How can I reproduce this paint effect?

To be honest you will never get a match, the modern textured / wrinkle finishes are a fine wrinkle not the big time worn crazing on this sign. that paint looks like a bitumen base which after many years shrinks back to this unique pattern. So id save myself a LOT of bother and just tell them it...

    Countersink.

Personally I'd take a grinder to it and grind off those nasty punch marks and smooth out the rough steel. you could grind the end so it will fit a good modern electric drill.

    Gas regs and responsibility

If its just the flue that's not right, cant you just pop up onto the roof and put it right yourself, then get in a man to do the paper work to say its safe etc. After all its not the gas boiler and the gas supply so its not rocket science to remedy it. That's what I would do anyway. FAR to much...

    My small workshop

What a brill idea to have the opening sides, gives such a good working environment in the summer and gets rid of all the work dust by just blowing away!!! Also I loved the engine video, I used to have a couple of those and they are wonderful little engines, would power a lot of woodwork tools, lol.

    What's this saw worth? (14" Disston )

All my saws are old or second hand, you can get marvellous saws on eBay or boot sales. But you have to look for them, the last was a mint dovetail saw by Pax for a fiver. if you need a dovetail saw this one isn't it.
