    oak table finishing

Just for your info: The scrubbed finish has been declared - 'No you're not' - so I am off to buy some Tung.

    oak table finishing

Thanks for the relies chaps. I have been doing some reading since posing the question and had come to the conclusion that Tung (Danish) oil was the way to go, but now I have seen the 'scrubbed' idea, I am wondering ............ I like the idea of the table having that slight 'bashed about'...

    oak table finishing

I have just finished putting a new oak kitchen table together using the left over timber I had after I made up the kitchen worktop. I finished the worktop by using nothing more than olive oil - it gets a coating of this about once every 4 days at the moment (for the first couple of weeks it was...

    HVLP

Thanks for the link - The kit I have found locally would appear to be the model 3000, no manufacturer detail on the case, but looks as near as damn it the same. I think I will give this a try, will post result! regards steve

    HVLP

I am testing a paint finish on a kitchen build at the moment and cannot get a decent finish with the brush (getting a bit fed up with the amount of 'knocking back' I've done!), so I thought I might try HVLP for the finish. I have read recent threads where HVLP kits are being used, in particular...

    Fox table saw

OPJ the run out is due to the flimsy fence - I think that due to it's quality (lack of) and short length, the fence is actually moving away from the blade as the piece is fed through. Good idea about the the hardwood washer, will give that a try when I have some spare time - for now it's back...

    Fox table saw

Some while ago I posted on the forum the fact that I had bought a Fox 250mm T/S, not, you understand the cast iron top one, no, the little thing that looks remarkably like a Ryobi. That posting was not singing any praises at all for the saw. Today I find that the fence has a run out and that...

Making kitchen worktops - feasible or flawed?

I might be just the bloke (mug?) you are looking for .....? went over to the scirie friday to pick up the wood for my own kitchen worktop - oak - air dried. Jean Jacques, owner of the scirie, kindly lowered it onto the top of the trailer ............. with a fork lift ............... - 4...

    kitchen

thanks for the replies. For the doors on this build I am using the 19mm MDF as I said, but the door panels will be 6mm, so the weight aspect is reduced. I think that for future builds it will be the MDF, for both the carcase and the door. again, thanks for the advice. steve

    kitchen

At last I have started on the new kitchen units. This has not been the easiest of tasks - being August and being France, the place is closed, so getting materials has been a nightmare, but .. I have ripped down 18mm CTBX ply for the panels and have found the quality to be rather dubious. I...

1st TABLE SAW RYOBI AXMINSTER JET or and used TRITON

Yes !!! - at last a post to which I can reply with a little bit of experience/authority, so for god's sake read it. Do not buy the cheaper saw. I was in exactly the same position 2 or 3 months ago and ended up buying the Fox T/S which looks similar to the Ryobi, which I also contemplated. At...

    Finish for MDF

I have read the recent thread for the primer finish on MDF, and you all seem to be spraying? I am on the start line for a kitchen build which will be faced using MDF which I want to paint finish. However, being in the middle of nowhere, France, it is not easy finding the products for this...

    help with kitchen worktop

675 stg for 9M of solid walnut top? yeah, I would've gone for that as well!! I bet that will look beautiful after it has gradually darkened in the light, a bit like an Iroko work top would. Smothered in olive oil and slowly worked in........ahh ... perhaps we won't go there.

    help with kitchen worktop

This posting is rather fortuitous! At the end of this week I shall be starting to build a new kitchen and have decided to use oak for the worktop. Have been to the local scirie and sourced the oak, air dried, but the chap there was not confident in the future stability of the top and tried to...
