    LN No9 Mitre Plane

The weight is like 5lbs which is a lot more than the block plane, so definitely gives it a bit more heft for shooting, and the grip for shooting is great! I found it much more comfortable to use when I played with it for a bit. Nice tool really. Whether or not it is worth it for the user will be...

New Mistery Veritas Stuff: Custom Bevel Down Planes

I am always surprised when people complain about having too many choices in quality products... Yes many of us already have an arsenal of tools and do not require anything new, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE is in that same position. If I was starting to acquire new tools today, these would...

David charlesworth, cambered blade with a back bevel?

Man I really wish people could learn that you can give an opinion and make a contribution without trying to tear someone else down at the same time. It feels like some people just get annoyed when they feel their opinion is not as valued as someone elses and it makes them feel invalidated, and...

    Pocket knife - recommendations

No issues with any of my Opinels keeping a decent edge either. All mine are carbon save one with an inox blade. They work like a hot damn and resharpen to hair popping sharp easily with a green compounded bit of leather...

    Pocket knife - recommendations

I have stacks of Opi's too! Awesome little knife for the money, but they are a dime a dozen. OP was asking about something a bit more special or I would have recommeded them also... Althought you could buy every size for less than the price of something highet end...

A quick question on skew chisels

These days I always reach for my fishtail for half blinds as well, but 1/8th inch bevel edge works just fine as well...

Veritas Jack Rebate Plane or Veritas Skew Rabbet plane???

To be fair, Jacob is correct... Neither of these tools is a necessity to do the jobs the OP is saying he is going to be doing, BUT, he asked a specific question, so my response to his specific question is as said. Between the two planes, I think the Skewed Rabbet would be the more useful option...

Veritas Jack Rebate Plane or Veritas Skew Rabbet plane???

Unless you are working on large pieces doing huge rabbets, I would stay with the smaller SR plane. I use mine frequently and love it. I have tried the larger JR plane and while it is nicely built for sure, I personally found it too large for anything I am going to use it for...

    new chisels

Or just maybe he likes new things AND quality? There are some of us like that and it isn't a mistake... It is a preference. I know myself, I have many tools that are a much higher quality and caliber than the work I am capable of, but that by no means takes away from the enjoyment I get from...

Have a look at this Jacob!

See, now this is not true for all... I use this jig exclusively and find it a super easy and reliable jig. It had a slight learning curve, but in no time at all it had me making wonderfully sharp edges and accurate bevels. I never have a problem using it. Just like any method, if you take the...

Have a look at this Jacob!

Earlier this year after spending too much time trying to argue with Jacob that I see nothing wrong with using a jig to sharpen if that is what makes you feel better and get a better edge for your purposes, I had publicly stated that I would spend some time trying to learn how to sharpen freehand...

    Chisel Sharpener

I use the MKII and like it very much. I find it very functional and effective for me.

    Chisel Sharpener

In before Jacob... Woot! What is best is what works for you best. If you take to freehand sharpening and get good, sharp tools then awesome! If you use a jig and like it and it gets you good sharp edges they awesome! You can obviously try practicing freehand honing before spending money on a...
