Hi,
I've just noticed in the paper that Aldi have restocked their digital caliper. It's a good tool, german made and at £8.99 about a third of the cost of elsewhere but they tend to disapear very quickly so speed is of the essence.

I agree with what has been said with one proviso. Once you have had variable speed you will never be without it. You mention the cl3/cl4. If you can afford the latter go for it.

Sounds like a good result Melinda. I think the problem is most of us have bigger lathes with brushless motors so it didn't occur to us. Strange really as in the days when I used to service my own cars a mechanic friend told me that if I was having trouble with the dynamo always check the brushes...
Hi Melinda,
I'm with the other guys on this one. A brief spell of cold weather should not affect a piece of machinery like this. The fact that it ran for 5 minutes probably means that it's another fault. It is not fit for purpose and you could elicit the help of the office of fair trading...
Depends on how cold it's got. If the internal electrics have iced up running it for 5 minutes will melt the ice causing the electrics to fail. As it's only a mini lathe your best bet is to take it indoors and let it warm up and dry out. If that doesn't work check any fuses you may have or speak...
They're called dymondwood blanks and can be obtained from http://www.stilesandbates.co.uk/browse. ... 11/level/4
They can be quite spectacular but you have to be careful when squaring off the ends as they are prone to splitting. Best to sand the ends rather than cutting them.

Hi,
Please forgive me but I am a fugitive from the woodturning section but I have a question on behalf of a friend. He has bought a scroll saw (make unknown) on ebay and now finds that it only accepts pinned blades which of course is very limiting. I seem to recall that it is possible to buy...

Mark,
It is beautifull. The only problem is that every time I look at one of your pieces I feel like selling the lathe and taking up basket weaving.
