Have you considered using an inverter that converts single phase 240 volts into 3 phase. I use one to drive a graduate lathe that requires 3phase at 440 volts and find it works well
I have the backs of 4 Victorian church pews for any keen woodworker for free. Collection from Watford Herts
They are circa 27 wide and some 90+ inches long as per foto attached.
It seems a shame to take them to the dump. They are dry and have never been left outside.
I have been given an old Graduate Lathe with a 3 phase motor. I do not have a 3 phase supply
I was about to change the motor to single phase, however I understand that changing the speed by moving the V belt is a pain
I recall seeing something about an "inverter" that can be added thus using...
Hi once again, I have answered my question above. I did find the half round key, screw was missing and I just could not remove it. I have fixed
the problem by following your advice about penetrating oil over several days and a wire brush on the screw thread of spindle.
Ian, many thanks. Just one further question about the tail stock. At the front end where it emerges from the casting the spindle has a groove. This groove is diametrically opposite the small knurled locking screw. Is this correct?
I have just been given a rather old graduate lathe. I find that the tail stock is seized solid. Any suggestions on how to release it. I have tried using stilsons on the screw thread but to no avail
