Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

No, I'm afraid not. The one on the left is by an old school friend Jim Munday home: Jim Munday Photography Edit: I see you are near Shepton Mallet - you might be interested that the timber all came from Rupert Furneaux of Land Logic Timber at Ditcheat near Shepton (www.land-logic.co.uk). He...

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

...Two sliding doors each end, with inner drawers and three central drawers. I used Blum Movento Tip-on drawer runners to get full extension opening with soft close and push to open, to avoid the need for drawer handles (which would have fouled the sliding doors). Sliding doors also use Blum...

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

Finally finished the oak and sycamore sideboard from the wood I bought at the Stock Gaylard Oak Fair last August. Frame and drawer sides are sycamore; panels, doors and drawer fronts are brown oak, top is London plane. Some photos:

    Autodesk Fusion 360 - 3 year limit?

Thanks all. Just to confirm, I renewed my expired personal use Fusion 360 with no issues today. It's a bit of a pain to have to renew and download again but I can access all my old drawings, and it's free, so I shan't complain too loudly!

    Repolishing granite...

Not that it helps you Nick (sorry) but I'd just like to say that we've have a solid black granite top on our island unit with a flush inset black induction hob for 10 years and is still looks absolutely gorgeous. Yes, it shows the finger marks but a quick wipe down with soapy water each day...

    Keeping kiln dried timber dry

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have set up a background heater and a de-humidifier in the 'inner sanctum' of my workshop - a separate insulated room where I keep all my tools. I have stacked and sticked all the timber on a trolley made of two dollies joined by a couple of length of...

    Autodesk Fusion 360 - 3 year limit?

Hi, I have been using the free version of Autodesk Fusion 360 as a hobbyist for a number of years - since 2018. I have had to renew a number of times. I now see a "Trial ends in 22 days" message at the top of the screen and according to their website you can now only use the hobbyist...

    Keeping kiln dried timber dry

Thanks (I think!) for the advice so far. I am definitely going to design to accommodate movement but I will also try some of the other suggestions too, except delay - Mrs P. tells me that's not an option 😳 Thanks all!

    Keeping kiln dried timber dry

Hi all, I have some lovely kiln-dried quarter sawn oak which I plan to make a sideboard from. It was sold to me as dried to 12-13% which seems to be true although I have yet to cut any in the middle and check there... but I trust the supplier. The boards have been stacked in my lounge for...

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

Indeed so. I am very happy with my purchase. Thanks also to everyone for all the suggestions and ideas - it's really developed my thinking. I will aim to post an update once I finalise the design and start building.

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

There were quite few timber vendors there - mainly air-dried - some cheaper than others. I am not sure I got a massive bargain, I have decided not to work out the £ per cu ft price I have paid for fear of depressing myself (!) But They do look like lovely pieces of wood and I've reached the...

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

Two lovely pieces! Are those ripple sycamore panels in the first example solid boards or veneered? (Ditto the spalted beech?)

Contrasting timber for brown oak sideboard?

Good suggestions - I will have a think but ash, sycamore or maple all sound good options!

Side mount drawer runners (Tolerance or Problem?)

Cheap runners - too much play, would be my guess. Much more noticeable with a 1200mm high drawer of course. I have used runners like these for garage drawers and they are fine - but if they sag a bit I wouldn't notice it. Blum Movento take up to 70kg, just saying. I suspect they'd solve your...
