Just flattened all my hand planes last week. Bought a piece of float glass 10mm thick, 115mm wide X 800mm long, cost me £17. Dead easy to attach and remove abrasives and gets your planes as flat as you'll need them to be.
Hello All,
I've been asked to give this give this table a bit of a clean and refinish and was hoping for some advice on how to clean, prep and refinish it. The table is in very good condition apart from some water marks which I understand can be removed with toothpaste?
A nasty drinks mark...
Andy, it's a shame I missed this. I've had to turn my attention to cricket bats in preparation for next year and I'm having to redesign my website even though I don't really know what I'm doing.
Some amazing tools on show in the photos.

I got into wooden planes simply because no metal plane existed to do the job I wanted, or none that I could find anyway.
Thanks Jimi and MIGNAL, pm'd you both.
Thought I might as well say that this is my website, so you can put a name to a face. It was nice of David Barron to mention me on his blog as I've been an admirer of his work for quite some time, especially his blog. These planes came off the back of requests from cricket bat makers to have...
Thanks for the info guys,
It's all about having a consistent and reliable supply or source. You have to pay good money for good work, so I'm happy to do that. I'll try the various suggestions and see what I can sort out.
It would be, however I'm looking for a solid iron without the slot for the chip breaker and screw. I could buy something larger and cut it down or use a standard iron but then I'm paying for steel I don't need.
I may send Phil and email and explain my position and see if he can help.
Hello
I'm looking for someone who can make plane irons or supply them is a custom dimensions? I'm a cricket bat maker but make the odd hand plane for people when I can, but I would like to get into it more and diversify my income a little bit.
I've previously used old stock and had a few from...
Thought I'd update what I've ended up doing, not perfect but a lot better. I tried building a box but it was a nightmare fitting it in and making sure it was secure. Instead I bought a 100mm to 50mm hose reducer from Axminster...
Thank you for the responses.
I think I'll have to have a go and see if it helps. The plate is just a nuisance and needs to go, I totally agree with your son Charlie.
Hello to everyone,
I'm wondering if it's possible to have the dust extraction around the blade rather than down at the bottom of the lower cabinet. The port seems to be restricted by a plate for some reason? and I wonder whether introducing the suction sooner will be more effective.
Space is...
Only just starting my adventures in furniture, amongst other things and these are the kind of pieces that made me want to start woodworking more. Just looks fantastic.
