    Microwaving wood

Cheers, I think il give it a go, I'm not too fussed about bowl blanks as can store a few of them in our small utility room but iv been knocking up some Christmas trees and snowmen for the schools Christmas fair and they want more than I originally thought. I don't want the school selling them...

    Microwaving wood

Hi all, I have looked around the net about microwaving wet wood for turning with many conflicting answers, does it work and if it does how do I go about it, see I have very little storage space for a woodpile and a ready supply of tons of fresh cut logs, just trying to make it a bit more...

Quality Chainsaws - Husqvarna & Stihl the only options?

We use stihl as a rule, I find they are a bit more robust than husqvarna's but the huskys are a bit more powerful, echo Makita and dolmar are all good competitors but it just depends how much you will be working the saw and how easy spares are to get hold of, If your mechanically minded you...

    Pricing

Unless your making bowls by request it's hard to get really good prices on them. Il make a load of bowls plus other stuff and put the money in a box toward new tools, I'm never going to set the world on fire but it saves the wife moaning about how much I spend on things for my workshop...

Japanese type saw- finishing parting off.

I know you said something that doesn't break the bank but I use silky saws at work, the strength and flexibility of the blade is second to none, I can't help but recommend them now, http://www.silkysaws.com/Silky_Saws/Wood-Working-Saws Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What chuck?

Really appreciate the help, I think il wait 6 months and see how I feel about the lathe, unless of course something comes up cheap enough on eBay, I wouldn't mind an upgrade now but I'm lacking in money and space, thanks again everyone :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What chuck?

Thanks for the replies, iv been turning for around two years now and I turn a lot of green wood/ rough blanks so I imagine the Axminster would be the safer bet, my lathe is 3/4 x 16tpi, the record power one will fit but iv looked on the Axminster site and can't find the thread size on there...

    What chuck?

I'm currently running a draper wlt 30 lathe with a 4 inch faceplate which has been adequate up until now, I'd like to upgrade to a 4 jaw chuck, now knowing my machine isn't the most powerful would a chuck have any negative affects? Also what chuck would be best? Cheers Sent from my iPhone...

    Turning green yew

I'm a tree surgeon myself so I get plenty of wood, my only problem is I haven't got the patience for waiting for it to dry. when I first started turning I came across a piece of yew with some interesting grain, so it went straight on the lathe, with a few doses of linseed oil when I had finished...
