Hi

I just used a cheapo from Maplins, just about got the job done but not impressed with it so looking to upgrade.

Need this for soldering guitar wiring, doesn't need to be too powerful, 40-60w.

I quite fancy one of those temp control soldering stations with interchangeable tips. From a bit of research Weller seems to be favoured but loads of bad reviews saying they stop working after a while, wondering if they have quality issues.

Tenma any good?

Ok bit random for a woodworking forum but always been helped by you guys so thought worth asking.

I have been using my Weller TC iron for the last 23 years without a problem, if that helps. Definitely better than a cheapie. It would be nice if the iron plated bits were a little easier to wet - I blame the higher soldering temperatures for lead free solders.

I've heard good things about Weller as well. If you can get a second hand 936, I reckon that'd last. But watch out there's lots of cheap knock-offs out there.
