That's a very kind offer Pete. I think I will persevere a little; if I take it carefully I can lower the bevel angle without losing cutter length, so a bit of trial and error should be OK. But as a guide, what is the length of the flat bevel on yours Pete ? That gives a fairly good idea of the angle I should be aiming for.

Hi Tony

If you think of the blade being a plane blade then the flat is the back of the blade, the bevel in on the inside of the blade and its only a tiny one.

Get your flat, flat and create a bevel on the inside at 30 deg or so to the flat, then it should work.

My flat is 7.2mm wide.

I forgot to update this one. With a shallower bevel, it seems to take a nice delicate shaving. I am not completely certain on the correct positioning of the cutter - Pete's looks like there might be a slightly greater clearance than I have set mine. I haven't yet used it in anger ...
