Hi All

First off, can anyone ID this wood for me please?

And the question

At the point where I am I am undecided whether to part this off as it is and let it stand alone, or leave the tenon on the bottom and make a base for it. The piece is just under 4 inches long.

Which would you do and if you went with a base, what wood would you use? My thought would be something plain and neutral which won't overpower the candlestick.

TIA!

Collin

I was going to say bubinga but it would be a guess. If you have jaws that can clamp onto a smaller tenon then turn it down to a long tenon that size and you can then either try a base or if that doesnt 'work' just remount it and part it off.

If it is a small candle stick then I personally would put a base, on the other hand if it is a decorative goblet then part off. At the end of the day we can only give opinions the final decision is down to you.

Nev - I don't have any more jaws than the standard Sorby ones at the moment. :(

Dalboy, I think you're right, a base is needed, yes, it's a candle stick by the way.

Can anyone suggest what would they would use for the base?

Ta!
