I have recently bought my first lathe, new Axminster AWVSL1000
Which starter kit shall I buy.
Axminster SK100 starter kit for £179.95 or
Record Power SC4 Chuck Package with 1" x 8tpi UNC RH Insert for 129.9

I prefer to save some money if there is no significant difference between the two, also record power kit got an insert which is handy if I have changed my lathe in the future.

I would definitely go for the Axy SK100. I have three of these and have never had any issues with them.

Thanks Dave. Have you had any issues with the SC4? Or are they known to have some weakness.

Ok, while searching for better price came across this package from Rutland for £149
4" Xact Precision Woodturning Chuck System. Now more confused.

Have never used the SC4 but with the SK100 you have a large variety of jaws to choose from as you may have with the others, it’s just that I have no experience of them.
