Evening everyone, I’m looking for two things.

Firstly I’m looking for a mitre gauge for my Elektra Beckum BAS 450 wn bandsaw (picture below), I’m not sure what the size of the track is so that’s the thing I’m stuck on. Are all tracks a standard shape and size? Also, can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced gauge?

Secondly, I’m looking for something to extend my rip fence. I've extended my table on the left in MDF and also wanted to also extend the rip fence. Does anyone know what I need and where to buy from? Is there a distributor in the UK? Or is there another way of extending it without extending this?

Hi

Without knowing the size of the mitre slot, no ones going to be able to advise you what mitre guide to buy. If its none standard, buy whatever you like the look of and change the bar. Either aluminium bought off ebay (what I did) or hardwood.

As for the aluminium extrusion the rip fence runs on, it looks pretty specialist. I'd ask the manufacturer if they can help. An alternative if you don't ever need to put the rip fence right of the blade is to undo the extrusion, move it left and fasten down further on, so all of its on the left hand side. Might make your blade changes easier too.

As to extending the rip fence, I think your best bet is to start from scratch. That's not as hard as it might sound.
You should be able to remove the ali extrusion and replace it with some box-section steel. Then either modify your existing fence or build a new one from box-section steel. You can use a toggle clamp for the clamping mechanism.

I know it sounds a lot of work, but it isn't. I've filmed a section on how to do it for a tablesaw, but it would be exactly the same for a bandsaw.

I think you would have mor success that way than trying to find an extrusion like that.

PS Of course, if you can get a length from EB, then all I've written above is nonsense...

Could you not just remove the extrusion on which the rip fence runs and re-position it more to the left?

Cheers

Good idea Karl, I'll have a look at that. It might be the quickest solution. If not then I'll have a look at starting from scratch. Steve, do you have a video or a sketch showing how you altered the table saw rip fence.

Thanks everyone!

PS. I'll measure the table slot tonight and see what i can get off the shelf to fit.

I've got some leftover alu extrusion from installing our solar panels. It's 40mm square with the 'curly' bits facing outwards. I don't know if it would suit, but if you want some, (I've got up to 4 foot lengths), you're welcome.

I'm in Stourbridge, West Midlands, if you pass by here, alternatively you can find out delivery costs and if you want it, I'll stick it in a tube or something for collection.

PM me if you want any.

Greg
