I currently have a 24 inch robinson which works mint, a 30 inch wadkin has come up for sale. All of my other gear is wadkin.
Is it worth changing to a 30 inch 2 ton beast?
Does anyone know how good the wadkin 30 inch RJ are?
Cheers in advance.

We had one at the railway workshops where I did my apprenticeship. I only ever ran timber through it - they had other people employed to do the maintenance. I believe they are good machines, but whether they are better than your Robinson - who knows. It's much of a muchness, and probably subjective anyway.

How often will you use the extra 6" of width? That, and the inconvenience of changing machines, should probably be the decider.

It looks very complete including the blade grinder. Tested in 1938. That 12.5hp motor will test the electrics in your shed ;) (my biggest machine is my 4hp Wadkin PK).

Considering it's in Maungaturoto, and that I did my apprenticeship in Auckland (Otahuhu), it might even be the same machine...

Cheers, Vann.
