Stewie, you're using dan's honing oil on a blue tanba aoto?

What's your assessment of the hardness of that stone. most are sloppy soft, but there are a few hard ones here and there (of the tanba aoto). Dealers usually ask a lot for the hard ones, though.

Hi David. Soaked in water, sloppy soft is an apt description for this type of Japanese Stone. Hence the move to using a honing oil as a surface lubricant. Less slurry to contend with; and a much more stable base to work the iron across.
