Any suggestions for assessing the sharpness of sawblades etc? especially when they are installed in a machine with a powerful motor? I'm not talking about when it's obvious when the blade is blunt, scorch marks, smoke etc
It would be easy enough with a powerfeed machine, one could measure the current drawn by the motor, but with manual feed one would have to use a stopwatch as well as a meter, and have a record of how the current drawn when the blade was new.
Even then, just because the current has gone up by say 20% does that mean it's time to change the blade? If one was running lots of material one could maybe calculate the current, the downtime, the potential increase in speed........... but what about general use?

When it starts chipping, that's when to change the blades, or burning end grain on sycamore, maple, beech, etc (all bad for that). Especially noticeable on MFC
