Just got this job completed today.

I had to make it all up on site so it took most of the day to complete. It will be painted by the customer.

Yes it does look like a 4" diameter sphere would pass thru that gap.

No it is 100mm as per the regs but I have just learned on another forum that there should be no 'horizontal' element in them? I may have to add glass or perspex if that is the case. I will speak to the customer about this.

Always read the full version of the regs .

HTH, The glass or perspex needs to be on the stair tread side to stop someone climbing using the horizontal rails.

Another point worth mentioning, you as the installer cannot now leave it as it is even if the customer wants it left like it is now.
