I was given a small piece of Laburnum recently and I wasn't quite sure what to turn it into, as I began to shape it I noticed a split running through and as a result of that, it ended up being smaller than expected. It's now a T light holder.

I had a piece of Oak that was part of the pith slice that I'd removed from a log several months ago, I couldn't bring myself to burn it or chuck it away and it's been lurking in the shed ever since. I've just had a play on the lathe and made my first square-ish live edge dish thingy.

Found out today that we will be with the pagan stalls at the Merrist Wood even next weekend so when I went out to the makerspace today an old worn oak branch screamed at me to be cut into lengths and turned into bud vases, so I cut it into 8 pieces of varying lengths, turned a tenon on the end of each one and managed to get 3 finished and given a good coat of Danish oil, the natural surface took a lot of scrubbing with a brass brush and some tenants had to be evicted but I really like the 3 I've got done, the dust from sanding was horrid 🥴

Excellent work Stig 👏

Looking at the Stig's lovely pieces reminded me of a similar piece I did about 6 years ago, I called it my Phoenix Vase, which was hewn and turned from a piece of Hawthorn, lots of searing of the wood with a blowtorch! The small bowl to the right of the vase was my first attempt at resin where I created a mould in in which I placed pot-pourri and then added the resin, which I then turned. It ended up as a pot-pourri bowl for pot-pourri!

If I'm allowed to have a favourite it's the oak one. Love that

Natural beauties

I had a request to make a large, 14" salad bowl for a friend. The only way I could get anything that big was to start glueing and got back on my bowl from a plank again. Done with ash and walnut just rough cut on my bandsaw

Flattened on the lathe

Cut into the rounds and glued. I do have several more newal post offcuts and they make perfect weights

The result was really nice and my friend loves it
