Can do it through my thicknesser too - on the table the slippery bit of low friction plastic stuff which Steve Maskery gave me, which means can set thickness very thin.
PTFE sheet about 10mm. Just had a go - my thicknesser stops at about 5mm so the sheet lets me adjust to zero if I wanted - but stopped at 1.5mm, on various scraps of beech and softwood. Just small increments or perhaps blades might snatch it up as it gets thinner.
Last time I did this for a purpose was to retread the rockers on a Thonet chair - 3 or 4 3mm layers of beech glued and cramped, shaped with spokeshaves.
I think the low friction gives the rollers a more positive grip, working against the cutters pushing back.
