I got a new Makita Bo5041 ROS today as a birthday gift and of course i appreciate it but man does it sound annoying! its making a pretty loud crackling sound, i think at all speeds but very noticeable at the lower speeds, loud enough that i'm wondering if its defective or not!
This one was brought to replace the same model that was stolen and while it was a while back now i dont remember it sounding like this. Ive found a few people mention it online from over the last few years, one said he brought another from somewhere else and it did the same thing, though i imagine more people would have mentioned it in reviews if it was normal..🤔

the sound is coming from the top, not the spiny parts and sounds a bit like a small something churning around inside so i thought maybe something was loose, i checked and nothing. Maybe the brushes are just very loud but i'd be surprised if that was the case

Has anyone else brought one of these recently that can confirm if this is normal or not before i go about asking the missus to send it back to amazon

Thanks chaps

Based on my experience with a low speed wet wheel sharpening machine which sounded the same as what your describing, I opened it up and the gears were a plastic nylon composition. The gears were the problem, I returned it and they offered a replacement which I declined. Full refund. I also said don't try to resell it, no they said, next day it was back up for sale. How did I know that?. I put a small black dot on the box.

Thanks for the replies guys, i think i might send it back for a replacement and if the new one does the same ill get a refund- its a shame we dont have more places where tools can be tested before buying

We do, they're called suppliers and they no longer carry out the required quality control as we are forced to provide them, at our inconvenience, with that service for free.....

Check out ROS made by Ridgid, they have a good reputation over here.
Ridgid don't sell WW tools outside N America. Some specialist pipe and plumbing tools in Europe but little else.
