Hi guys,

Just looking to see what other users of the benchtop style lathe (e.g. Jet 1220, Axi 1218 etc) do with their lathes - I have one and i use it on a workbench, but find that it sometimes is a bit rattley for larger pieces, obviously especially if they're a bit uncentred.

Do others find that these lathes are better if bolted down? I do like to be able to maneouvre the lathe a little getting into bowls and that...

Thanks, as ever, for your thoughts!

my 1416vs is not bolted down
i know it should be and i am wary of the fact
if i do anything worrying i ensure it is "clamped down"

I have bench top POC as i aint got the room for a proper one i G clamp it with a little brecket i kmocked up. Sorry no pics im too ashaimed of my poky work area lol

Brian, Try fixing your lathe to a plywood or MDF sheet about 10-12mm thick, (countersink bolt heads on the underside)sized just a little larger than the lathe footprint all round, say 25-30mm.

This may then enable easier clamping to your bench top with bench dogs/hold down clamps or similar as you reposition it.
