Hi

I'm getting more adventurous with my Myford ML8 and have splashed out on a chuck for it. Very easy to use and I'm already seeing the benefits.

However, I have also noticed that there is a bit of spindle movement/vibration with the chuck in place. I have tried tightening the bearing adjusting collar, but haven't been able to move it with my fingers (and yes I did remove all the retaining screws) and haven't had the courage to use any more force.

This is where my inexperience comes in. the movement is just about visible as the chuck rotates and I can feel it on the wood, but it's not huge. How much is acceptable and should I be attempting to minimise it? And if so, should I get some sort of wrench/tommy bar onto the adjusting collar to loosen then tighten it?

I did get some very useful advice in this thread https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/myford-ml8-manual-t45664.html about the adjusting collar, just not sure where to go from here.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks

Toby
