did some experiments myself, using the general purpose stuff i got from Lidl, edge jointing pretty strong and in places tore the timber fibres, end grain pretty much on par with regular cheap pva and a good whack will split it,

As a result of this video, I thought I would try the strength of ordinary hot melt glue too. I tried gluing 2 pieces of tongue and groove softwood offcuts about 1" wide and 10" long with an overlap of about 5". I could not separate them so I put one end in a vice and pulled on the other. Still couldn't separate them but I could hear the wood starting to split. The glue sticks are cheap ebay ones too. Very impressed. Up until now I have only used hot melt glue to hold things in place before driving screws in. I think I can save on screws now.
