Hi all

I'm looking at spending another small fortune from Axminster & Classic Hand Tools and was wondering if I should wait for the Alexandra palace Show in March to get some discount?.
I've never been to a Carpentry show and not sure if they have stock there and then and if any discount is offered?.

I have my eye on a few Lie-Nielsen products and wonder if there will be a representative there?.
I'm also after a Bridge City Toolworks HP-7 Shoulder Plane from Classic and few other nice bits.

Just noticed Festool will be there and that means trouble, well for the cash flow anyway.

Many thanks.

I wonder if there will be any discounts at this event ?

Deneb Puchalski demonstrates Lie-Nielsen Hand Tools: Mon 15 February

If you have a love of hand tools you won't want to miss well-known Lie-Nielsen hand tool specialist and demonstrator, Deneb Puchalski. Deneb will be displaying his skills and demonstrating the range of quality Lie-Nielsen hand tools.

6-8pm, this will also include an evening

I've managed to get a couple of discounts at shows but only by asking. Normally about 10%. I've never managed on power tools (I think the profit margin is a bit too tight). Always helps when you pick up a few items and spend a little more. Try and get a saleman involved before you start picking things up.

Not sure what you'd manage at Alexandra palace though. It wasn't a great show when I went about 10 years ago. I've done Yandles and Westonbirt more recently (Classic Hand Tools seem a bit bigger at Westonbirt).

Axminster now are the sole suppliers of Lie-Nielson tools. They do not supply any other retailers with Lie-Nielson. Meaning they can in theory price fix the product now, so don't expect any discount, because if its Lie-Nielson you want they know it is only them that they can purchase it from!

Classic Hand Tools still sell LN stuff Ryan, and they aren't part of Axminster (Brimarc). CHT get their LN gear direct from Brimarc.

Cheers

I've never got good discounts at shows like Ally Pally. I've seen ex-show machinery go for cheap. But not hand tools or hand power tools. Basically stuff they don't want to man handle back into the van, goes cheap. But you have to turn up with a suitable vehicle to take said machinery away.

What day are you going Patrick? I'm probably going on the Friday.

You need a few lessons from Waka and Martin - they've turned it into an art form 8)

Cheers

And guess who owns Brimarc? Yep, Axminster.

I was informed that Brimarc only recently stopped supplying retailers with Lie-Nielson stuff. Which is why rutlands are doing LN cheaper than normal, they are trying to clear their old stock.

I'm not aware that CHT have a problem getting LN gear from Brimarc. I spoke to Alex just today about an LN item ( ) and in the course of our conversation he said that, if he didn't have it in stock, he could get just about anything LN direct from Brimarc within 24 hours. It would be a sad day if LN (and presumably Veritas at some point) were only available through Axminster.

I doubt it will happen. My local tool shop is a Brimarc dealer, and can get anything which Brimarc stock. So LN/LV are available to all Brimarc stockists. Unless Brimarc did away with their stockists and sold everything through Axminster.

Cheers

Axminster bought Brimarc about 18months ago. LN Are pulling out of a lot of stores in the US and might have dictated to Brimarc the same thing.

I agree. I've tended to use Classic Hand Tools for LN and Veritas stuff - great people to deal with. Their customer service is always first class in my experience.

Cheers

That's the reason I placed my order with CHT. I could have ordered the same product through my local tool shop, and for the same price. But for a niche shop like CHT I think customer loyalty is important. FYI my local tool shop is great, but isn't a hand tool shop. More a good diy shop (who still get plenty of my business).

Cheers

I support all the smaller retailers whenever I can, unless the cost difference is considerably higher. I'd even prefer to put money in Tilgear's pocket over Rutlands, for example.
