Finishing an oak toilet seat?

I have a solid oak loo seat that needs refinishing. The original seat was a very smooth finish (no, not through sitting on it :lol: ) and I'm not sure how it was finished. Anyway, I've sanded it all back to bare wood and want a similar finish, which I don't think was a varnish.

Any ideas on a good hand finish treatment?
