Hi all, I was wondering if this was a decent planer or if it is known to have issues.

I believe it’s £1500 new?

Someone is selling one for £500, looks to be in good condition and claims to have only used it a few times.

I doubt they are any better a machine than many of the other similar older models Record PT260, Dewalt DW1150,etc etc. Although often 20-40 yrs old they are in fine working order and sell for £300-500. So once you’re selling any similar secondhand machine your in the same price bracket even if only 5 yrs old.

Thanks for the info. I think I’ll leave it as I’m not desperate and may just buy the metabo 260 when I really need it. For an extra £250 it will come brand new and with warranty, think it’s the safer option.

thanks

I don't know the model at all but it looks a bit wobbly in the legs and the tables look like a pressing rather than a casting so maybe not great. I have an Electra bekum 260 which is the same as metabo and similar to many others in that size, it's not great but looks a lot better than that and cost £600 20 odd years ago . There must be some of those second hand at a reasonable price.

I just checked eBay and as if by magic there happens to be an Electra Bekum on there and it’s only in the next town from me… thanks very much for your suggestion.

I am curios tho, does this look similar to yours? If so, is there meant to be a fence?

For £500, I would buy it. Especially after the week I'm having with my P/T.

Here's a video of a Dutch woodworker using his DeWalt 27300. He isn't doing DeWalt any favors by the way he is demonstrating the machine and he hasn't set it up correctly so the thicknesser properly feeds the board.

That looks very similar to mine though mine is blue. The fence locates on the two rods visible left of centre . The Morse lever has snapped off on mine. You can get double edged disposable knives fairly cheaply or HSS resharpenable ones which are not worth it. Check out miles tools and machinery for new fence and Appleby wood turning for new knives.

The Cheltenham Electra Beckum is the same and in similar condition to the one I sold on the forum here recently for £240. This price was based on an average of recent ebay sales. It had been used for many years, also in Cheltenham by coincidence, without any particular downsides.
