Hi,

I'm currently adding a drop leaf to a desk, and from looking around on the internet, it seems the right hinge choice is known as a drop leaf hinge, or a table hinge.

However, I can't seem to find any that are reasonably priced. The characteristics of this hinge are that one side is longer than the other; the longer side is fixed to the leaf, as I understand it. From the tutorials I've seen/watched, the hinge is recessed into the table/leaf.

My questions is - aside from the difference in length of the two hinge sides, is there anything that makes the hinge special, and could I use an alternative, and cheaper hinge? I've looked around bon the internet but Googling for "drop leaf hinges" results in some very expensive hinges!

Amazing, thanks. I guess it's all about knowing what to Google...

or, as i did look around for something else the night before, wonder what they meant by "specialist hinges" and remember it being in there.

:)
