I've not long 'bought' a 1950 clinker built 14 foot dinghy to restore. I was wondering if there are any boat builder types amongst us - might be needing some [a lot] of advice.

There's a guy that's written a number of articles on wooden planes and general handtool use I found usefull a few years ago. He's a boat builder by trade and his articles can be found here:
Bob Smalser
He also used to post here http://forum.woodenboat.com/
Other than that I've only dabbled with mirrors and ents (both ply) so probably can't help much.

if you look on the "other side" they have a board dedicated to wooden boat building - it doesnt seem to be that active , but you might pick up some useful info from old threads if nothing else

Any specific questions just send me a p.m. - A useful source of restoration info is the CVRDA forum. They do specialise in vintage racing dinghies but are a good source of info for any boat restoration.

I have built a few clinker boats and done a load of restoration on various craft.....ask away and keep us posted. What is she and as always some pics would help.Good luck.

See if you can get hold of a book called Clinker Boatbuilding by John Leather. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clinker-Boatbui ... 403&sr=1-1
What he doesn't know about traditional boats isn't worth knowing, and the book shows the correct methods and materials from start to finish.
Also search out Traditional Boat Supplies http://www.tradboats.com/ and Classic Marine http://www.classicmarine.co.uk/, both east coast companies that sell some of the materials and fittings you may need. Anglia Stainless http://www.angliastainless.co.uk/ supply copper nails and roves along with silicon bronze woodscrews and machine screws (don't use brass). I've used all three companies over many years, all of them know what they're on about.
