Any suggestion for the best finish to use on this dense (rather oily? ) wood ? I don't want an ultra shiny result, just a nice lustre.

i have heard of people using the sponge of a dried out black shoe polish
never tried it myself but apparently it deepens the dark grain and it doesnt leave a high gloss

Because blackwood is such a dense oily wood anything you apply to it will only sit on the surface and not soak into the wood because of this i only use a wax finish on blackwood

Thanks TW.
BTW, I'm having some probs looking at the shop on your website. Its belting through a slide show which I can't stop.

I updated my website the other day and it looks like some errors crept in, i have corrected the problem and you should now be able to enter the shop.

To stop the slide show click on the pause symbol just below the slide show center, it is set to auto play and change every 5 seconds. For some strange reason that had changed to 1 second.

Regards Tony
