hi,

"U" values!

does anyone know of a table of these values for different types of wood. cant seem to find anything type specific and ranges of "U" for "wood" seem to vary wildly.

over here, for a client to qualify for their 50% off tax credit, a window or door has to have an overall value of less than or equal to 1.6.

i can get figures for the glass no probs, but i'm after a figure for 60mm oak.

thanks, and all the best,

jeff

Hi Jeff,

Would table 3-11 of this USDA publication help?

http://www.fs.fed.us/ccrc/topics/urban- ... 20wood.pdf

European Oak isn’t there but I would guess that the value for a species of similar density might be substituted. I’ve not tested that assumption so you will have to make a few trial comparisons of similar density timbers in the table to test it yourself.

This table shows k of Oak (origin unspecified) near the bottom as 0.17 W/mK:

I bet any figures are averages as timber density varies within the type anyway
