    Jim, you read my mind!

Just looking back through Alan`s post (my-first-plane-restoration-t52629.html) when I came across..... Strangely after contemplating it for a while I purchased a small lump of said "Cocobolo", ready for my next plane re furb, just the other day! I have to say, although you have pipped...

    chisels for choping!

Yes Mathew that was my initial thought, the only problem is that they don't do anything smaller than 1/2" as far as I can tell? I was thinking maybe a 1/2" and probably 3/8" would cover most of the work I've been doing of late. Edd

    chisels for choping!

Thanks all for the replies! Rob I had half thought about a couple of jap chisels, just to give them a try as much as anything else. I was fairly sure the was going to be such a suggestion from yourself! Mathew it is as much bashing in the end of the bubinga as anything else (bit of an...

Newbie tool advice - first decent handsaw

If it helps a couple of months ago I got the Adria small crosscut Tenon saw on a recommendation from my college lecturers. All I can say is that it performs very well indeed, and since its purchase the need to buy a dedicated dovetail saw (although I shall still at some point) has slipped down...

    chisels for choping!

I have until now been more than happy with my set of AI mkII chisels and to date have not found the need, or want to use a mallet with them, due to the increased amount of lapped dovetails at college I am now in the market for a couple of chisels just for chopping (something I can give a whak...

    Cocobolo handeled Carcass Saw

Very nice indeed =D> =D> =D> I think you may have just inspired me as to the timber choice for the handles on the next plane I do! Keep up the good work! Edd

    Which Chisels?

+1 for the AI chisels, take an exceptional edge, fine bevel for fidly bits and nicely balanced, couldnt ask any more from a chisel! Edd.

    Plane crazy??

I have a wooden jack knocking around waiting to be cleaned up and reading this has given me the idea that it may well get a bit of customization! ! Is that a pretty standard design for the handle on the side of the plane or just something you came up with?..... i'm thinking maybe...

No7 up for critique!! - Now with more pics!

As promised (Jim! ) I gave it a quick test run earlier, and took a couple of pics. All in all more than happy with the initial performance. I swapped out the original iron and back iron for the jap laminated blade and clifton back iron from the No51/2 as in use this is more than likely...

No7 up for critique!! - Now with more pics!

Not entirely sure myself as to the benefits of the high temp paint, I think I came about using it after reading about someone else having used it a while back. All I can say is that its quite hard waring and easy to apply and I like the finish it gives. I do tend to warm the plane a little...

All I can say is a big thank you to everyone for your kind comments and to let you know it makes me feel quite embarrassed for not taking more photos and doing ant sort of wip!, especially after promising that I would after the last one! The guilt is so great that despite...

Hi all thanks for your many positive remarks! i'm sorry to say I somehow didn't manage to take any photos of it before I started, a bad trend I seem to have set myself, just get carried away and forget I suppose! All in all I would say I have probably spent about 5 or 6 days, usual a...
