I'll need something to put my tools in...

If you make those top windows opening you will be able to get long lengths of timber up into the rafters for storage.

    Joining aluminium tube.

You can turn aluminium down on a wood lathe but would be best to use carbide tools

Building a workbench out of softwood?

It will be fine, I have built a couple using buiscuit and screw joints with normal (chipboard) work tops and they were nice and sturdy. It just depends what you intend doing with them I suppose.

    Best Mitre Saw under £350

I have just bought an Evolution RAGE3 FP2552 2440V compound mitre saw, £149.00 from screwfix along with the Evolution stand and I am well impressed with it. Does what it says on the box and accurate.

How rapidly should a blank be turned

I would flood them with thin CA glue before continuing, they should then be stable and virtually invisible once finished Good luck

    How clean is this machine!

Far too clean, it would be out of place in my workshop, no wood shavings involved

Jet 1221vs stand or no stand

Taywood turners have them for their club and mount them on Macalister folding work benches. I don't believe they have any problems with this arrangement and they are easy to move and store. You could give them a call to discuss or pop down to Montifieth to take a look. I have mine mounted on a...

    Removing Difficult Screws

Use a soldering iron on the head of the screw, it should expand enough to break the seizure.

    Timber studs size.

I have built 3 workshop/studios around this size (and one 5 x 7) using 68 x 38 at 400mm centers with noggins and they were all fine once together. First one using 90mm screws and nail gun for the other two. Bit wobbly during construction but stiffened up as roof and ship lap fitted. If you...
