    Dice cup...string?

The leather is a great idea but I am worried about having to drill a hole too big. The jewellery finnings is the stuff I was thinking of just didn't know the name. I'll see if I can find some thin leather, would fit a little better I think. Thanks guys!

Hi guys. I am making some dice cups for some friends. The issue I have is I am making lids for the cups as well however I want to be able to attach them with a string but I cannot think of any nice types of string / ribbon. Any suggestions? (Cups aren't made yet, starting the first batch...

A turner talks about his work

A really beautiful piece but way too artsy a video for me personally. Would have preferred a full video of him making the piece.

Powder / Gem / Mineral Inlays?

Fantastic advice all-round. I'll have to pay £2 on postage for a £0.79 brush from amazon. Wish I knew where to get one in the city.

Powder / Gem / Mineral Inlays?

Thanks! The price actually seems reasonable. Turners retreat don't list weight so I've had to email them to see how much their powders actually weigh. I think I'll try some aluminium. Kind of related but what kind of abrasives do you use for this? (And...any place to buy decently prices...

Powder / Gem / Mineral Inlays?

Absolutely gorgeous work you've all shown. I've seen a lot of the techniques and that is not so much what I am worried about it is actually finding the stuff. I might buy from turners retreat and see if their stuff goes, £10 isn't too much for a test run. I've seen some people use copper...

Powder / Gem / Mineral Inlays?

I've seen the stuff on turners retreat but I am looking for other options. Has anyone used the metal powders from turners retreat? they any good? Anyone have any experience buying / making their own metal filings or shavings? I can't seem to find any resources of making them yourself online.

    Latest work just about done

Awesome, thanks guys. I've been doing it all manually and my results are decent but it takes a long time and ends with blistered fingers.

That looks...really awesome. Do you make your own pads or buy them from him?

    Latest work just about done

Haha no worries guys! I was just confused by the answer. Thanks for clarifying. I'll have to invest in a power sander...blisters on fingers is not nice. I didn't know to expect sanding to take so long, I'll be more vigilant in the future.

It is ash, yes. That is actually nice to hear as I was confused what I was doing wrong. Strangely enough that is how I was removing the sanding marks. I fail to see why sharpness of tools would affect sanding marks, enlighten me?

    Latest work just about done

Hey Kim! Thanks. The case actually goes in making it much lighter than it appears...I've forgotten the right term, invex? It ... curves inward! I'll post some more pictures but what I just finished today was using my cole-jaws (for the first time) to cut off the excess and sand it down. I'm not...

Japanese saw benfits over western saws?

This question is a two parter. I'm currently planning on purchasing 14tpi dovetail saw from Veritas to get into some hand-made box making. However Rutlands just emailed me regarding this offer on japanese saws. I am just wondering: 1) What are the benefits of Japanese saws against western...
