    4-poster design

Thanks guys. Adding 'antique' or 'traditional' filtered out most of the modernist stuff. Should be able to get some ideas there.

    WBP plywood

A couple of years ago I acquired some 12mm 'exterior' ply from my local Bradfords. I cut it into silhouettes and painted them for outdoor decoration. Within 3 months they were all delaminating. In my younger days one could expect BS1088 WBP ply to last untreated for years. I know that most of...

    Suggestions for choice of wood?

The main reason for building another bed is because I have just spent a ludicrous amount on a new mattress and felt the need of a bedstead worthy of it. I'd be happy for instance to use ash but over time it won't yellow the way the rest of the woodwork in the room has. My favourite is Elm but...

    Bending 3 mm plywood

I have seen some very attractive curved panels for boat interiors made from 9 or 12mm ply by making saw-cuts from the reverse using the same technique coffin-makers use for side panels.. They can be made very strong by filling the grooves with a thickened epoxy as they are bent. For added...

    4-poster design

I'm planning a 4-poster and want to step away from the post design I've used for previous ones. I'm aiming for a fairly classic turned spindle with no carving or barley sugar twists. Can anyone point me towards a source of designs? I'm a competent hobby turner but lacking in the artistic eye...

    Suggestions for choice of wood?

I have a stack of that (earmarked for kitchen cabinets) but it has a distinctly red colour compared to pine; don't know if that's always the case.

    Suggestions for choice of wood?

As you're not far from me, any suggestions where I'd get some?

    Suggestions for choice of wood?

I'm about to start on a 4-poster for myself having made 5 previous ones for other people over the years. Mostly I have used hardwoods but as my bedroom has a lot of pine - floor, windowsills, built-in wardrobes etc - I thought a softwood would be a better fit. I'm not keen to use knotty pine...

    Mortice machine.

For what it's worth I have just added a morticer to my hobby workshop. It's a bit crowded and I have to shuffle the bigger machines around to get enough space for long work pieces so industrial machines are out. After a lot of googling I settled on a Rutland machine - 1/2 hp, sliding table. I...

    Radial armsaws ????

Interesting observation. I've always fancied a RAS but haven't figured out what extra capability it would give me as I already have a sliding mitre saw, table saw and table router.
