'Long' grind on crown bowl gouge

Folks,

I have a friend visiting tonight you has asked me to grind their turning tools with 'correct' (i.e. not wrong / poor as I know we all have preferences) profiles.

He has a crown bowl gouge (standard 3/8 I think). Could anyone confirm whether or not the flute profile crown grind is suitable for a 'long' grind or whether it is only suitable for the traditional bowl gouge.

Crown gouges will happily take both long and short grinds simon

I have this gouge and no problems with a swept back grind done on the Sorby 447 universal jig!.
