"Silicone sealer" is the answer to many of these issues esp Dowe Coning (?) but it's tricky to spread evenly. I know it's really difficult to pry things apart that have been siliconed.

A contact adhesive might also be good.

At work our metal workers also use contact adhesive in a "spray glue gun", to spread the glue evenly around the timber. They then just spray the zinc (or other metals e.g. pewter, copper etc) with the same stuff, wait a couple of minutes and then stick the two together. Impossible to break the bond once stuck down!

3M's water based contact adhesive. Get from Viking Tapes. No nasty smell and cleans up easy. Sure they use as standard on post form worktops.

I thought that the best part of using contact adhesive is the wonderful smell !!!!
