Is it any good for woodworking?

I have one in my garden that is starting to threaten a wall. Its three trunks from a common bole. 15 foot to the top. Each trunk is around 8" diameter tapering to the top, and where the trunk comes out the ground it must be 30 inches or more across.

Is it firewood or working wood.? The answer will affect how its cut out of the ground.

I think you will find the trunk is more a bundle of fibers than wood. Most palms are. Not much good for firewood either.
That said some artistic minded chaps have turned chunks of various palm woods just to be a bit different.
You will get more of an idea when you cut into it.

this is about two ton of grass and I could easily sit in the top of it.

If I could cut it flush with the ground and turn it upside down it would make a fantastic three legged table.

I cut one down for a mate its terrible stuff like a bunch of drinking straws.

Palm woods can be very interesting and good for turning if soaked in resin. For even and thorough penetration though this needs to be done under vacuum. For large pieces it will also be quite costly in terms of resin but the results could be worth it.

I've checked with a guy here who cuts trees down for people, he says the same. Not even any good for burning.

Certainly not going to try resin impregnating because I'm not a lathe owner.

i just might end up with a conversation piece tripod table after all.
