I've just got hold of "The New Sylva - a discourse of Forest and Orchard Trees". It's modelled on John Evelyn's "Sylva", and it is absolutely stunning. Everything. It's got everything - from the past to the future, silviculture, pests, uses for the seeds, leaves, timber, you name it. 200 drawings. Sooooo beautiful! Published by Bloomsbury at £50, Waterstones have it for £40 on line, and mine was £31.50 delivered from The Mail on line bookshop. (It might be more now). Go for it - you know you want to...
