Britain has a pretty impressive record in the woodworking sections of the World Skills Championships. The workshop where I trained has by itself produced one Gold and at least two Bronze medallists in cabinet making over the years, and other British workshops and colleges have added still more to that tally. They're not just delivering high technical quality on previously unseen projects, these young apprentices are doing it under punishing time pressures.
