Hello

What is the generally accepted (if any) best sequence to lacquer or paint a partitioned box (no lid)? Inside first, outside first, sides first, bottom first? All in one go (in which case I suppose some kind of device must be used to keep the box from touching the worktable)?...

I have tried one of these ways at a time or another but never seem to have the right approach - some problem always arises during the proceedings.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks

just the way I work and i don't normally make boxes, but I spray the interior first before assembly masking off the areas to be glued. Once it is all assembled mask off the interior and spray the outside. HTH.

I don't have neither the paint spray equipment nor a place to do spray-painting safely. I must do with brushes. But thanks anyway, there are some good ideas in there.

You could always spray with rattle cans from halfords. If I want a clear lacquer finish I'd seal the box with a cheap varnish and use clear lacquer. It's no good for big jobs as it would cost a fortune, but for a box it might be ok.

The problem for me with spray painting is that the one safe place where I could do it - provided the part to be painted is small - is my 7th floor balcony, which is quite windy as it directly overlooks the sea. Tried a couple of times with spray cans, in what looked like calm weather, and besides the object to be painted I got myself, the walls and the window panes painted in a more or less conspicuous way. But I must admit the sightseeing is nice, will all the sailboats down there... :)
