This is for the oldies! Fore some reason, this popped into my head last night and I wonder how many of you can remember spending 6d at the Saturday morning picture show, about 60 ish years ago and can remember the call "Shazam!" And what it related to? (Shows how bloody old I am)

Saturday morning pictures was a no no for me, 2 1/2 mile trek to the nearest buss route and then a 7mile journey into Worcester or Kidderminster.

But do you remember the Tattler and News Theatre by New Street station that you could pop in to see the cartoons and news real clips whilst waiting for the busses.

I used to go to the News Theatre quite often. In those days, the Bull Ring was a very different place. Barrow boys and the strong man acts were rife.

Up the steps into the remains of the bombed out Market Hall with the Sea Mine collection point at the top.

I lived abroad most of my earlier years I use to sit on the cinema buttresses and watch from the outside quite often being chased by the cinema manager who never caught us. It had vents along the side as it was so hot inside, we lived in Cyprus then. but when back in good old Blighty I remember a 3d ice cream. when we lived in Changi that is in Singapore we could get loads of sweets for a few cents

Who remembers tuning in to hear the Devil's Galop

If you clicked you cheated, although I must admit to not knowing the name at the time of warming up the batteries to make sure they would last the episode.

Great stuff. Just like the 'Valentile Dial' stories

I vaguely remember Dick Barton from the late 50's early 60's but another piece of music on the link brought back memories - Coronation Scott, theme tune to ......Paul Temple

Did you have the badge

Or maybe one of these

I remember Newcastle quayside on a weekend watching the fire eaters, sword swallowers, escapologists and performing monkeys. A lot of the performers were seamen off the ships visiting the Tyne and making extra money.
Radio? Had to be the Goon Show.
Saturday morning pictures was Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon and the Three Stooges.

The pictures for me from 60 onwards was The Astra and the cry of "Good old Fred". Anyone know Fred???

In fact it was several years before that as me old man was in the R.A.F. and stationed in the recruting orifice in Wolverhampton and we were in married quaters in Albrighton. Cosford Astra was just a 20 min walk for us..

Better half recounts about Flash Gordon and Ming, the shouts the boos the uproar if somebody kissed, and a total inability to hear the film dialogue.
