woodworking with the router book baseplateand mounting plate

hi all just got from libery woodworking with the router it gives info on making your own router table.

it mentions baseplates and mounting plates for use with table page 65 are these the same thing.

it mentions "rabbiting" you route a hole in table to suite the dimentions and shape of router base ,the router then sits in this hole at a depth simulalar to thickness of baseplate /mounting plate.

i assume the rabbiting part means you leave a ledge on the hole in table for the router to rest on???

or is rabbiting an american term known by something else in the uk

Hi Micks,

In the UK rabbiting is known as rebating, so you are quiet correct, you machine a ledge for the mounting plate to sit on, flush with the surface of the table.
